Sicherlich ist das Autofahren in ungeeigneten Schuhen nicht ungefährlich, dennoch können viele (besonders Frauen) bestens in ihnen fahren, es ist halt eine Sache der Gewohnheit. [...] kann auch in Badelatschen fahren.

IMHO ist es nicht nur Gewohnheitssache -- im "Normalbetrieb" kommt man (frau) mit einiger Gewöhnung sicher auch mit ungeeigneteren Schuhen zurecht, aber wenn's dann mal auf schnelle und sichere "Pedalarbeit" ankommt, trennt sich schuhmässig oft die Spreu vom Weizen. Und Unfälle gab's deswegen auch schon, hier einige Textpassagen

Unfall wegen Plateausohlen

Bei einer Frontalkollision zwischen zwei Fahrzeugen sind am späten
Sonntag abend in Baden vier Personen zum Teil schwer verletzt
worden. Ausgelöst worden war der Unfall durch eine
Fahrzeuglenkerin, die modische Plateausohlenschuhe mit hohen
Absätzen trug und beim Fahren statt auf das Brems- aufs Gaspedal
getreten war.

Gemäss Angaben der Polizei vom Montag bestand das Schuhwerk
der Automobilistin nicht nur aus sechs Zentimeter dicken Sohlen,
sondern zusätzlich noch aus 15 Zentimeter hohen Absätzen. Die
Fahrzeuglenkerin wollte ihr Auto abbremsen. Statt dessen trat sie auf
das Gaspedal. Dabei stiess ihr Fahrzeug frontal auf ein
entgegenkommendes Auto. (SDA)

TOKIO - Riesen-Plateauschuhe sind bei jungen Japanerinnen der letzte Schrei. Manchmal mit tödlichen Folgen, wie ein Fall aus Tokio zeigt.

Im September 1999 hatte die damals 19-jährige Noriko Kobayashi mit ihrem Wagen ein 13-jähriges Schulmädchen überfahren und tödlich verletzt. Das Besondere an diesem Fall: Die junge Fahrerin hatte Plateauschuhe mit Riesen-Absätzen getragen und konnte daher nicht mehr richtig bremsen. Nun fordern die Eltern des Unfallopfers umgerechnet rund 1 Million DM von der Fahrerin.

Killer platform shoes claim two more lives
Mainichi Shimbun KOCHI - A 23-year-old female driver has been arrested after she couldn't apply the brakes because of her platform shoes - resulting in a car crash that claimed the lives of two men, local police said Saturday. The accident comes after police across the nation warned women against wearing the hugely popular footwear while driving because they greatly impair the ability to apply a vehicle's brakes. Kochi Prefectural Police said that the accident occurred Friday morning on a prefectural highway in Tosa, Kochi Prefecture. The car driven by Kana Miyamoto, a part-time worker from the city, hit a guardrail on her left after she failed to apply the brakes, shot into the opposite lane, and then collided head-on with a van. In the crash, the driver of the van, Yoshihiro Kitadai, 59, and his father-in-law, Sadaki Okada, 75, died. Kitadai's 50-year-old wife, Kumiko, suffered injuries that are expected to take about a month to heal. Miyamoto also sustained an injured neck. Miyamoto was arrested on suspicion of professional negligence, resulting in the deaths of the victims. She was sporting shoes with 9-centimeter-thick soles at the time of the accident. Last November, a woman wearing similar shoes failed to properly apply the brakes and slammed her car into a utility pole in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, killing her passenger. Osaka Prefectural Police announced Feb. 3 that they would crack down on drivers wearing the platform shoes because the killer fashions were dangerous. Concerns have also been raised that it is easy for women to fall down and hurt themselves while wearing their shoes - and at least one fatality has been attributed to such a footwear-induced mishap.

Police said Hiromi Takahashi, a high school student from Izumizaki, Fukushima Prefecture, died in the accident at about 1:50 a.m. Friday. Takahashi was most likely driving too fast when she made a left turn on the road and veered into the pole. The car flipped over and she was tossed from the vehicle, police said. Takahashi died from serious wounds to the chest. Police said she was wearing 15-centimeter heel platform shoes, which likely prevented her from braking in time. Fukushima Prefectural Police have revised part of their road traffic regulations, prohibiting the wearing of platform shoes while driving, starting in May

Ich bin ziemlich sicher, dass diese Leute nicht das erste Mal in solchen Schuhen gefahren sind -- wahrscheinlich ging's eben bis dahin gut, aber als es drauf ankam, war der Schuh dann ein zu grosser Klotz am Bein (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes).

Nochmals: ich behaupte nicht, dass es gradheraus unmöglich ist, in "ungeeigneten" Schuhen Auto zu fahren -- aber in Gefahrensituationen stellen die Dinger offenbar auch für "Geübte" ein gewisses Risiko dar.
